Cette superbe kokeshi représente un valeureux guerrier : un samouraï. Il porte le kabuto, un casque orné de divers éléments : des fleurs de pruniers sur les côtés, en écho à la décoration du bas de la poupée, et un croissant de lune. La lune est une interprétation artistique de l'ornement frontal traditionnel, et certainement aussi un clin d'oeil à Date Masamune, figure historique qui fit prospérer Sendai.
Le décor est réalisé entièrement à l'encre sumi, plus ou moins diluée, ce qui donne ce monochrome gris.
Satou Hideyuki est un artisan Yajiro, de la préfecture de Fukushima. Ses deux parents font toujours des poupées kokeshi ; ils partagent un atelier à quatre, avec son frère, Yusuke-san.

This superb kokeshi represents a valiant warrior: a samurai.
