Kokeshi aux fleurs bleues - Saito Sachiko
Ce petit motif floral bleu est disposé en quinconce comme les fleurs de pruniers sur les kokeshi traditionnelle de Yamagata. Ces fleurs à quatre pétales, dont le centre est vide, me font penser aux motifs pop de Marimekko, une marque finnoise appréciée au Japon.
Saito Sachiko est une artisane installée tout récemment. Elle travaille le style Naruko, dans sa variation “Honjo”, produite à Yurihonjo, préfecture d’Akita.

This small blue floral motif is arranged in a staggered pattern like the plum blossoms on traditional Yamagata kokeshi. These four-petalled flowers, with an empty centre, remind me of the pop motifs of Marimekko, a Finnish brand that is very popular in Japan.
Saito Sachiko is a recently settled kokeshi maker; she works in a subtype of Naruko style, called “Honjo”. It grew from a local craftsman who was taught Naruko style, and developed then his own variant. From master to apprentices the craft went on, and Honjo kokeshi has now 4 active makers.
